Theatre Club has a fantastic offer available for individual bookers to see the
hilarious ROUND THE HORNE…REVISITED. We will also be looking ahead to the
festive season when London will welcome back pantomime, not seen in the West End
for decades. SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS will star Lily Savage and groups
of 10+ can save up to £10 per person.
Individual offer – save up
to £7.50
Round the Horne was one of the
most popular radio shows of the 1960s. First broadcast in 1965, it regularly
attracted a staggering audience of 15 million and starred Kenneth Horne, Kenneth
Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and Douglas Smith.
Although the broadcasts were
hilarious, the actual live shows were truly unforgettable. Brian Cooke, the last
remaining writer of the original shows, has faithfully adapted the cult series
for the stage and recreated one of the live recordings in ROUND THE
HORNE….REVISITED at The Venue.
Hear the songs of Rambling Syd
Rumpo, a brand new Julian and Sandy sketch and revisit such classic characters
as Binkie Huckabuck, Dame Celia Molestrangler and Gypsy Rose Swansoiler.
Tickets are available at just
£17.50 (+ £1.50 booking fee per ticket) – a saving of up to £7.50. Valid for
Monday-Thursday evenings until 18 September.

Pantomime returns to the
West End – great group rates available
The West End will welcome back
traditional pantomime this Christmas when Lily Savage stars in SNOW WHITE AND
THE SEVEN DWARFS at the Victoria Palace Theatre.
SNOW WHITE promises to be a
real treat for all the family. Boo and hiss at the Wicked Queen, ooh and aah at
the stunning dance numbers, including a delightful ballet of the animals, gasp
at the pyrotechnics, magic mirrors and huge sets, and chuckle at the best
pantomime jokes around.
The outrageous Lily Savage will
star as the Wicked Queen, a role she first played during her pantomime debut in
1999. Savage is also well-known as the host of TV quiz show ‘Blankety
Blank’.
Pantomime was once a regular
seasonal fixture in the West End but it has not been seen now for several
decades so this production will mark a welcome return for this much-loved
Christmas tradition. The glittering festive spectacular will run for 50
performances only so be sure to secure your tickets now.
SNOW WHITE is just what the
West End needs this Christmas…oh yes it is! Booking from 17 Dec – 23 Jan 2005.

StageFest
Networks Across the Country
Following its launch in March
in Swindon, the StageFest ethos is spreading across the Clear Channel theatre
chain, with the next StageFests taking place on Sunday 19 September at the Beck
Theatre, Hayes and on Saturday 16 October at the Tameside Hippodrome,
Ashton-under-Lyne. A further StageFest has been scheduled for early 2005 at the
Princess Theatre, Torquay.
The StageFest events are free
and are open to all amateur groups or individuals who wish to participate or
just to visit and run from noon to 4pm. Each event is a celebration of amateur
theatre in the area and is not only an opportunity for members of societies to
network and exchange views, but more importantly, to have the opportunity to
participate in question and answer sessions with senior management from Clear
Channel, who will demonstrate their commitment to giving maximum support for
community users of their venues. The events will also be promoted to the public,
and will serve as a useful tool for recruiting new volunteers.
National and local suppliers
and advisers to amateur theatre, from publishers of plays to costumiers,
lighting and sound suppliers will also be hand to promote their services. Short
seminars will be given by leading experts on a range of such issues, such as
Health & Safety, providing up-to-date advice to the benefit of the amateur
theatre movement.

The National
Council for Drama Training - Performance Reviewers
Required
The National
Council for Drama Training, the professional accrediting body for vocational
drama courses, is looking to recruit members of the drama profession as
Performance Reviewers.
Performance
Reviewers will be experienced professionals within the entertainment industry
(with knowledge in acting, musical theatre, stage management or technical
theatre) who will attend and report on
productions mounted by students on accredited drama courses. This will
contribute to NCDT’s new accreditation system which aims to maintain contact
with courses between accreditation visits.
Accreditation aims to give
students confidence that the courses they choose are recognised by the drama
profession as being relevant to the purposes of their employment; and that the
ession has confidence that the people they employ who have completed these
courses have the skills and attributes required for the continuing health of the
industry.
An application form and
background information is available from Nicole Hay on info@ncdt.co.uk or 020 7387 3650. The Closing date for applications is
Friday 6th August.

Jekyll &
Hyde
Music by Frank
Wildhorn
Book and Lyrics by
Leslie Bricusse
Originally
conceived for the stage by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn
A true musical theatre
phenomenon, Jekyll & Hyde attracted legions of loyal fans even before the
show began its smash-hit record breaking Broadway run. Since then it has been a
major worldwide hit and now finally it has arrived for its UK Premiere and
pre-West End tour, starring Paul Nicholas, in the lead role of the man with the
frighteningly alternating personas.
Jekyll & Hyde is pure
pulse-pounding theatre, with that same macabre combination of fun and fright
that fuels such classics as Sweeney Todd and The Phantom Of The Opera, and a
lush, romantic pop score that includes the hit songs This Is The Moment, Once
Upon a Dream, A New Life and Someone Like You.
The tour, produced by UK
Productions, commences in August and full details can be found on their website
by using the following link:
http://www.ukproductions.co.uk/current_prod_tour_list.html
Josef Weinberger will be
licensing Jekyll & Hyde for amateur theatre organisations within the UK and
Ireland in due course, however, there is no release date at this time. If you
wish to be added to the waiting list, please contact
Weinberger's.

Smokey Joe's
Café - The Songs of Leiber & Stoller

Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Book (Concept) by Stephen Helper & Jack
Viertel.
First productions:

for an electrifying entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American

imagined blend with hilarious set-pieces and slice-of-life emotions. Featuring
nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE isn't just
great pop music - it's compelling musical theatre. Here's the
songlist:
Neighborhood, Young Blood,
Falling, Ruby Baby, Dance With Me, Keep On Rollin', Searchin', Kansas City, Love
Me/Don't, Fools Fall in Love, Poison Ivy, Don Juan, Shoppin' for Clothes, I Keep
Forgettin', On Broadway, D.W. Washburn, Saved, Baby That Is Rock & Roll,

Winston
Churchill Travelling Fellowships 2005
The Winston Churchill Memorial
Trust is a living tribute to Sir Winston, whose life and example are the
inspiration. He dies in 1965 and many thousands of people, in respect for the
man and grateful for his inspired leadership, gave generously to a public
subscription to fund Travelling Fellowships. These are to enable man and women
from all walks of life and every corner of the United Kingdom at acquire
knowledge and experience abroad. In the process, they gain a better
understanding of the lives and cultures of people overseas and, on their return,
their expertise is enhanced greatly, as is their effectiveness at work and their
contribution to the community.
Some 100 annual awards are
made; Churchill Fellows can be of any age, background or occupation, but they
must also be British Citizens. Everyone has an equal chance; a lack of
qualifications is not a bar to an award as applications are judged on the merit
of the project and the individual.
Categories for applications in
2005 include:
- Music for the Young - The
Trust invites applications from Young Musicians and those who are involved in
their tuition, organisation or development.
- Young People - If you are

encourage personal development as well as benefiting your
community.
