WORLD AIDS
DAY
Wednesday
1st December is World AIDS Day and on this occasion Leo Tromp, President of the
International Amateur Theatre Association, wishes to inform amateur theatre
practitioners across the globe about a project that AITA/IATA has planned for
2005 and 2006.
The International Amateur Theatre Association plans to
launch an aids awareness project starting 2005 by which we hope to reach as many
people as possible in Africa and other countries and increase the sense of
awareness.
At the moment we have 3 students from Uganda and
Zimbabwe attending a 10 months theatre-director course at the Klaipeda
University in Lithuania with a 100% grant the AITA/IATA was able to receive from
an international funding organization. They will end their studies in June 2005.
These students already had an academic background and have been involved in
their country in programs of aids awareness, drug abuse, nutrition, gender
balance, family planning, they have trained and worked with people living with
aids and are also involved in theatre.
Together with our organization and the contacts we have
in 13 African countries, these 3 persons will pilot a project that will begin
starting 2005, where we will use theatre in a more aggressive manner to make
people and especially children and the youth aware of the dangers of
aids.
The plays will be presented to reach as many people as
possible and also on squares, at schools, bus terminals, in busy streets and
wherever there is a gathering of many people. After the performances, there will
be discussions concerning aids/hiv, which also include the necessary care for
infected patients. The diffusion of the project will start beginning of 2005
with a script/story writing campaign for the youth (15 to 25 years) and adults
in African countries and also other 3rd world countries. The topic will have to
do with aids/hiv in general.
The scripts/stories will be discusssed by a specialized
group of people and there will be a selection of scripts per country. The best
scripts will be awarded and also make public to as many media as possible on the
1st of December 2005, World Aids Day.
During 2006 the best scripts will be tranformed into
theatre productions and be presented in as many African countries as possible.
Also on 1st December 2006 on the occasion of World Aids Day, it’s intended for
these plays to be presented for children, youth and adults during the first week
of December 2006 by our theatre groups all over the world. This way we will
be
using our global network of culture and theatre for
educating and informing as many people as possible throughout the world. Our
association has presented this project to the UNESCO.

ONLINE TICKET SALES
for GROUPS in KINGSTON UPON THAMES
The Royal
Borough of Kingston launched its online ticket sales system in September 2004.
It is part of the e-Pay National Project . Kingston is the only Council piloting
the system within this National Project.
E-Ticketing
is a new way for people to buy tickets for local events. It is an online ticket
booking facility which helps community groups who don’t usually have access to
this 21st century sales system. It allows them to promote events and sell
tickets online through the Kingston Council website. This provides a means of
reaching far more people, both for advertising and selling tickets.
From a
customer perspective it means people can buy tickets at the time, place and in a
way that is most convenient to them. The E-Ticketing system makes it easier for
people to buy tickets for a range of events all from one website. Tickets can be
bought in this way using credit/debit cards. Customers can also visit the
Tourist Information Centre who can book tickets using this system and payments
can be made using cash, cheques or credit/debit cards.
Over 500
tickets have already been sold using the system and six promoters have
registered to sell tickets online.
The web
pages for E-Ticketing are available on the Kingston Council website (www.kingston.gov.uk). People without
access to the internet can also book tickets through public internet terminals
in libraries and the Tourist Information Centre.
Kingston is
now planning demonstration days when it will showcase the software and system to
other local authorities. These will be on the following dates:
10th
January 9.30am-12.30pm, Guildhall, Kingston upon Thames and 7th February
9.30am-12.30pm, Guildhall, Kingston upon Thames
If you
would like further information about e-ticketing or if you would like to reserve
a place at one of the demonstration days please contact Romilly Rogers,
E-Ticketing Project Manager, on 020 8547 5205 or email romilly.rogers@rbk.kingston.gov.uk

NODA THEATRE CLUB
This December we have a fantastic offer available for
individual bookers to see the fantastic THE SOLID GOLD CADILLAC starring
Patricia Routledge and Roy Hudd. We also have news of a great new group rate
for one of London’s hottest shows,
JERRY SPRINGER-THE OPERA, with savings of up to £35 per
person.
Great group rate of £15
available
If you want a group theatre visit with a difference, why
not book tickets to see London’s
hottest show, JERRY SPRINGER-THE OPERA.
The hilarious show will this month celebrate its first
birthday at the Cambridge Theatre and continues to go from strength-to-strength
playing to ecstatic audiences every night. Starting out as a work-in-progress at
the Battersea Arts Centre, a sell-out concert version at the Edinburgh Festival
attracted the attention of the National Theatre Director. It was unlike anything
ever before seen at the South Bank venue and was a complete sell-out, prompting
the West End transfer. The show is next set to conquer
America and take
Broadway by storm when it opens in Autumn 2005.
The multi-award winning production currently features
David Soul, star of the original TV series of ‘Starsky and Hutch’, as America’s
favourite talk-show host. The show also features David Bedella from the popular
BBC series ‘Holby City’. A combination of opera,
musical and comedy, this wonderfully unique show is a great night out and your
group is sure to enjoy their Jerry Springer moment.
Booking until October 2005. Groups of 10 or more can get
best available seats at only £15 per person – a fantastic saving of up to £35.
Rate is valid Monday - Friday evenings and Saturday matinees. TO BOOK CALL NOW

THE SOLID GOLD CADILLAC, the classic corporate comedy is
currently playing to rapt audiences at the West End’s
Garrick Theatre. This sparkling satire marks a return to the stage of one of
Britain’s best-loved actresses, Patricia Routledge of ‘Keeping Up Appearances’
fame as well as the irrepressible Roy Hudd, in a play from the golden age of
American comedy with a remarkably timely theme.
A small shareholder, Mrs Laura Partridge – actress
(retired) – attends the AGM of the General Products Corporation. The Chairman
and Directors barely register her presence. But when it comes to voting in their
massive salary increases, she has some rather awkward questions to
ask...
Get two tickets for just £40 (+ £1.50 booking fee per
ticket) – a saving of 50%. Valid for Monday – Thursday evenings and Wednesday
matinees until 15 January
