elegies
A
song cycle by William Finn
BRITISH PREMIERE
A rare musical treat from Tony Award-winning composer William
Finn
For two nights
only, the British Premiere of Elegies: A Song Cycle by William Finn (Falsettos,
A New Brain) comes to the Arts Theatre (Great Newport St,
WC2) for just two nights, Sunday November 7th and Sunday, November
14th.
In this brand
new production, award-winning young director Jamie Lloyd brings together a
stellar cast of West End and Broadway favourites: John Barrowman, star of
Anything Goes; the West End songstress Susannah Fellows (Mamma Mia, Nine); Deven
May, the Broadway personality currently wowing audiences as Bat Boy and Lauren
Ward, the leading lady A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Regent’s Park this year and
Broadway’s Follies.
This production
of Elegies: A Song Cycle provides a rare chance to experience William Finn’s
intelligent and passionate work, and is an example of contemporary musical
theatre writing at its very best.
Incredibly, this will be the first time any of the Tony Award-winning
composer’s work has been performed in London in almost 20
years.
Last year, Finn
took New
York’s
Lincoln Centre audiences
by storm with this celebration of life told through the power of song. Elegies: A Song Cycle is a charming, often
quirky, collection of 20 songs – tributes to the friends and family members Finn
has loved and lost over the years; written from a personal perspective, avoiding
sentimentality. His subjects are
beautifully resurrected and celebrated with inspiration and zeal. Each number captures poignant glimpses of
life and death, which sparkle with the narrative sophistication always apparent
in Finn’s work.
Director Jamie
Lloyd (Associate Director Anything Goes, Solid Gold Cadillac and the forthcoming
Guys and Dolls) originally directed the
British Premiere of William Finn’s Falsettoland at the Edinburgh Festival. This is his second William Finn piece with
design by Jason Southgate and lighting design by Oliver
Fenwick.

THE
WOMAN IN WHITE is London’s latest hot
ticket, and having recently opened to rave reviews, the show has already
announced an extension to its booking period. This ‘big, big triumph’ (Sunday
Times) is now taking bookings until 3 September 2005
Freely adapted
from Wilkie Collins’ sensational Victorian novel, THE WOMAN IN WHITE features a
‘soaring romantic’ (Daily Express) score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and features an
international cast including Maria Friedman and Michael
Crawford.
This must-see
production follows a dashing young man, employed as the art tutor to two devoted
sisters, who finds himself stranded at a remote railway cutting. Out of the
darkness a mysterious woman dressed in white appears desperate to share a
chilling secret. He and the sisters soon find themselves trapped in a web of
betrayal and greed where it is impossible to know who to
trust.
Groups of 12 or
more can buy best available seats at just £30 per person for Monday-Thursday
evenings and Wednesday matinees between 3 January and 3 September 2005. Rate applies to tickets booked and paid for before 10
December.

Patriarch Helge
Klingelfeldt is celebrating his 60th birthday at the magnificent family home in

Helene, sons Christian and Michael and a host of family and friends. It promises
to be a very special occasion. But as the evening progresses, eldest son
Christian feels compelled to break the silence surrounding a dark family secret.
The effect is shattering, resulting in a ‘celebration’ no one will ever forget.
David Eldridge’s
darkly comic and explosive adaptation of the award-winning cult film by Thomas
Vinterberg boasts an illustrious cast including Jane Asher, reprising her role
as Else, whose diverse career has spanned from TV’s ‘Crossroads’ to the National
Theatre, Rory Kinnear fresh from the massively successful production of ‘Hamlet’
at The Old Vic, Luke Mably, whose film work includes ‘The Prince and Me’ in
which he plays the title role opposite Julia Stiles, and Stephen Moore as Helge,
best known for numerous screen roles including ‘Brassed Off’, ‘Clockwise’ and
