LASTEST NEWS

The Name a Seat campaign continues to grow but there are still seats available. It would be really great if we could say “House Full”. If you have been thinking about naming a seat and haven’t yet done so, please contact Phil Laugée, Hon Membership Secretary for a form. Think about your friends and relatives – perhaps they would like to name a seat; we shall be getting the plaques engraved shortly after Christmas, and it is much simpler (and cheaper) to bulk buy, so we would like to order as many as possible in the first batch. For more details contact Phil Laugée, Hon Membership Secretary, on 01803 404141

The Friends of the Palace Theatre Name a Seat Scheme

(Place a Plaque)

The Name A Seat Scheme is part of the Friends Regeneration Appeal aiming to raise £100,000 for the renovation of the Palace Theatre. The Appeal was launched just one year ago, and has raised £75,000 towards the work currently being carried out. We aim to raise further £25,000 to do much needed additional work in the back stage area and the Badminton Hall.

The new raked seating at the Palace Theatre will accommodate 380 seats. To date we have “sold” 90 seats. People have taken the opportunity to remember loved ones and to commemorate events and some of the dedications are very touching. Dedications have come from as far away as Australia and there will be some well known names among the plaques.

However it is not just individuals who are buying the seats. Many societies are taking the opportunity to honour past presidents or people who have given long and dedicated service to those societies. Torbay & S.W. of England Festival has dedicated 6 seats to do just this.

Many of seats are in pairs or blocks, where organisations and associations have shown their support for the theatre by using the Name a Seat scheme to donate to the Friend’s Appeal.

There have been requests for certain seats to be dedicated i.e “Please can I have seats D 3&4.” We will do our best in all circumstances to comply with these requests but of course the change of layout to the auditorium does mean that seats D 3&4 are no longer in the same place. The new layout will give extra comfort to the seating and will ensure better viewing lines as the extreme side seats have disappeared and access aisle have been created. The whole raking system is now nearing completion and almost ready for the seats to be installed. Once they are in place we will start the process of getting the plaques engraved and attached to the back of the seats ready for the theatre re-opening in April.

We are sure that once people realise the full extent of this refurbishment and the opportunity that the Name A Seat Scheme presents there will be a big uptake to Place a Plaque.
