Uproarious panto
raises the rafters
Review: Cinderella,
Palace, Theatre, Paignton, Paignton Pantomime
Productions
Once again Paignton
Pantomime Productions at the Palace Theatre
managed to put on a treat of a Christmas
panto. Cinderella was full of good, all-round
entertainment. Leading lady Rachel Bennett
was a very competent young actress with
a superb voice and was ably supported by
Helen Randall as Prince Charming and Daniella
Butto as Dandini. Both Dennis Wenman and
David Shortland as the Ugly Sisters had
us laughing uproariously, along with a packed
audience, at their garish costumes and silly
jokes. The community singalong also infected
the audience with Christmas spirit as the
theatre rafters rattled to the sound of
song. Top of the youngsters' bill was Buttons
played by Dean Breyley who struck an immediate
and impressive rapport with the children
and held the show together throughout. And
husband and wife couple Colin and Rae Gilderthorp
as Baron Hardup and the Queen more than
made their mark. The young dancers of the
red team provided a chorus for the opening
night's show and brought along an infectious
blend of fun and enthusiasm. Special congratulations
must also go the costume and scenery departments
of Paignton Pantomime Productions who laid
on stunning backdrops and beautiful outfits.
The Paignton production
of Cinderella was a smashing panto rich
in every tradition and well worth a look.
