IF it's
Christmas it must be pantomime
- and they don't come better
than the annual offering from
Paignton Pantomime Productions!
This year's
show, Dick Whittington, opens
at the Palace Avenue Theatre
on Boxing Day and promises to
be bigger and better than before.
The formula has changed this
year with a professional script
packed with jokes and quick-fire
action.
And it's all
change in the director's chair
with lain Douglas taking time
off from treading the boards
to direct the proceedings.
Said lain:
'We will have a show that should
suit the family down to the
ground while at the same time
being up beat, raucous, comical
and modern.
"As
well as the new script we have
a modem selection of music mixed
in with the old favourites,
and we are probably the only
panto to feature a giant carrot!"
Several
PPP old regulars have been enticed
back into the fold for the show.
Kate Reeves
will be playing the title role
while Mike Williamson returns
after a long gap for the role
of Alderman Fitzwarren. Susan
Lawes takes on the role of Principal
Girl while Neil Booth and Paul
Ekers team up for the comic
duo as the Captain and Mate.
Laughs
will also be provided courtesy
of 15-year- old newcomer Adam
French who plays Idle Jack and
another newcomer, Brian Allen
gets to dress up (with no fewer
than 12 costume changes) as
Dame Sarah.
In the
boos hisses department is David
Cooper, who promises to turn
King Rat into a really menac-ing
character, while Ami Martin
and Michelle Derbeyshire play
Tommy the Cat and the Sultana
respectively.
The show
runs from Boxing Day through
to January 4 with 7.30pm shows
from December 26 to 30 and January
2 to 4, plus 2.30pm matinees
from December 26 to 29 and January
1 and 4.
As always
the show has a nominated charity
and this year the Paignton Gateway
Club will be benefiting from
the fun.
