Review Jack and the Beanstalk 1998

 

Giant laughs a

minute

PAIGNTON Pantomime productions are well Into rehearsals for this year's production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The beans will be planted at Paignton's Palace Avenue Theatre from Boxing Day until January 3.

The box office Is already open and, says director lain Douglas, bookings are coming In fast. He added: "There is a large chorus, eight leggy dancers and two teams of cute little juniors who will play alternate performances. The last two shows were highly successful artistically and financially but we want to get even better. That makes my job even harder."

Paignton's panto has been running for 54 years now and this year's show Is full of PPP veterans, including Helen Randall - daughter of well known Town Crier Peter Randall - who play's her third Jack for the company, and Fred Caygill as the giant. Taking the part of the Princess Is Rebecca Bennett who has  been a soloist at Babbacombe Theatre for a number of summer seasons. The Dame Is once again played Neil Booth, backed up by comedy characters Spick and Span, played by Kim Eagles and Donna Hughes, and Silly Billy, Dean Breyley (pictured right).

Choreographer Jill Webber will once again be putting the cast through their paces teamed with musical director Lyn Caygill.

SLAPSTICK COMEDY: Spick (Kim Eagles), Span (Donna Hughes) and Silly Billy (Dean Breyley) ham  it up in rehearsals.
