Mother Goose - NODA review

Mrs. Lynne Caygill – South West Area - Region 4 Representative
This was a bright, colourful show. It was very slick, it had pace and plenty of energy. The costumes and scenery were some of the best I have seen in an amateur pantomime.

The scenery was effective with good perspective and the costumes were beautifully coordinated and a delight to see. The music was provided by a five-piece band, with musicians doubling up on instruments in order to give a varied and interesting orchestration along with appropriate sound effects.

The cast had considerable enthusiasm, however although all the diction was clear, I had difficulty hearing the chorus when they were at the back of the stage. Microphones are often set at the front of the stage and chorus singing can get lost, it is worth thinking about mikes half way back on stage and setting the chorus as far forward as possible. The choreography had lots of vigour and enhanced all the chorus work.

The junior dancers provided the audience with a delightful rendering of “The Ugly Duckling.” The named cast gave some lovely performances especially Priscilla the Goose who was gained the sympathy of the audience from her first entrance and captured and held the attention of the children. She gave a most animated performance.

All involved deserved the excellent ovation they received at the end.
